A few quick and easy tips for developing reading and language skills at home:
*Watch television programs that teach phonics skills together (Super Why, Sesame Street, Between the Lions, Singing TIme.)
*Talk alot (describe what you see or/and are doing, give multiple step directions.)
*Read books together
*Complete homework and review together
*Use prepositions (different, alike, same, after, before, up, down, in.)
*Sort/classify items by putting them into categories (colors, clothing, furniture, utensils,)
*Teach comparisons (smaller, larger, taller ,shorter, lighter, heavier)
*Lost begining sounds ( I want to get _egetables, _ananas, _ilk) and have your child provide the correct begining sounds.
*Play the car ABC game (name a word that starts with A, then a word with B, etc.)
* Develop rhymes.
